According to CoinMeta, Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey stated that he was right to take action at the time to defend then-Fed Chair Jerome Powell from Trump's attacks and would do so again. Bailey said that he and other central bank governors spoke out because the U.S. President began to target Powell "as a person," rather than the policies of the institution. "I only comment when I believe it is an attack on his personal and a friend's character," Bailey said, "I consider Jay to be a friend; he is an extremely upright person. Saying 'I'm sorry, we will support our friend' at that time was the correct response, and I know I would do so again." Bailey has previously expressed his "great concern" over Trump's attacks on Fed officials, warning that any trend that weakens the independence of central banks could affect other regions around the world.
