According to CoinMeta, the decentralized perpetual contract trading platform Lighter plans to submit an application for a derivatives trading license to the US authorities in November 2026. Founder Vladimir Novakovski stated that the team has been in communication with regulatory agencies for about a year. Lighter has previously reached a cooperation agreement with Robinhood Chain; both parties will split trading revenues in a 50:50 ratio, and 11 million LIT tokens have been reserved for user incentives. Lighter also buys back and destroys LIT tokens through protocol revenues. As of now, the license application has not yet been submitted, and there is still uncertainty as to whether it will be approved.
