Commodity Market Commission urges CFTC to halt Kalshi crude oil perpetual futures contracts
2026-10-23 00:53:09
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Bloomberg, the Commodity Market Commission (CME), which represents derivatives exchanges and traders such as CME Group, is urging U.S. regulators to prevent Kalshi from launching perpetual crude oil futures contracts, arguing that such products may threaten market integrity. Kalshi launched a crude oil futures contract with five trading days per week and a ten-year term earlier this month, and on Tuesday applied to introduce a perpetual contract with no expiration date. The CME believes that regulators should ensure that such products comply with uniform standards and cooperate with overseas regulators to prevent U.S. traders from bypassing geographical restrictions to access offshore trading platforms through VPN. Previously, CME put on hold its plan for 24/7 crude oil futures trading due to industry opposition and regulatory hurdles.
