Economist: The European Central Bank will raise interest rates for the last time in December
2026-10-23 12:28:07
According to CoinMeta, economists expect that after the European Central Bank (ECB) pauses its interest rate hikes next week, it will conduct its last hike in December. This view differs from market expectations, which suggest that there will be more rate hikes in the future. In a survey, the vast majority of respondents believed that the ECB would raise the deposit rate by 25 basis points to 2.75% at its last meeting in 2026 and maintain that level until May 2028. Bas van Geffen, an economist at Rabobank, stated that there is currently no sign that energy inflation is spreading to broader wage and price-setting areas, so there is no need for the ECB to accelerate its rate-hiking pace; it can wait until December before taking action.
