The EU strengthens technological autonomy, while the UK seeks exemption from rules on technological sovereignty

According to CoinMeta, the European Union is pushing for technological autonomy, which has raised concerns in the UK, which believes this will harm the interests of its digital enterprises. The UK argues that its companies should be eligible to participate in contract bidding under the upcoming "Made in Europe" technical regulations. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the EU is discussing limiting contracts under the Cloud and Artificial Intelligence Development Act to European companies in order to reduce dependence on non-European suppliers such as the United States. This proposal is at the core of a comprehensive "technological sovereignty" plan drafted by the European Commission, which aims to establish a tiered system for cloud computing services and software suppliers, stipulating that governments of various countries can only rely on EU suppliers when handling sensitive data. Both sides will intensify consultations on this issue and other topics before the EU-Britain summit on November 20th.
