According to CoinMeta, Claude, in collaboration with the formal verification company Theorem, wrote approximately 180 million lines of mathematical proofs for 123 open-source libraries, successfully identifying hundreds of software vulnerabilities. Traditional testing relies on random data input and cannot guarantee that no errors will be missed, whereas this time, through mathematical proofs, Claude attempted to fundamentally eliminate certain types of errors. Within a few weeks, Claude completed the verification of 239 test entries, and the results showed that in the specified operating environment, these programs would not crash when faced with any input smaller than 64 MB. During the proof process, Claude also discovered and fixed hundreds of bug, including memory overflow writes and image decoding vulnerabilities, among others. In the past, such mathematical verifications were extremely time-consuming; for example, the mathematical verification of the sel4 operating system kernel took about 20 years.
