According to CoinMeta, the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards of Iran announced that earlier on the 23rd, two super tankers attempting to illegally cross the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz ran onto mines. The explosions and fires caused their engines to fail, and they were forced to remain anchored in place. These two tankers were carrying over 4.5 million barrels of crude oil each. After hitting the mines, they were abandoned in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, and the crew escaped from the ships.
