According to CoinMeta, on October 24th, Cailian News reported that the UK announced a funding of 100 million pounds (equivalent to 134 million US dollars) to build a biosecurity laboratory. This project is supported by OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind. The aim of this initiative is to enhance the UK government's ability to recognize and respond to risks associated with artificial intelligence. The laboratory will utilize artificial intelligence to identify and monitor biological threats, while OpenAI and Anthropic will provide up to 200 million pounds in computing power for modeling purposes. The government has also allocated 65 million pounds for the development of measures to deal with pathogens. UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayanan stated that as artificial intelligence capabilities continue to grow, the UK must be equipped to protect its citizens and shape its future independently. The announcement also includes an additional 120 million pounds in funding for the AI Security Research Institute, which is the government agency with the largest funding scale and whose core task is to continuously evaluate cutting-edge AI models.
