According to CoinMeta, Anthropic announced that Claude Code has begun to support MCP Tasks and Elicitations, allowing external plugins to manage the execution status, progress, and results of long-term tasks through standard interfaces, and to ask users for information when necessary. This plugin is capable of conducting in-depth research and exporting large reports. The MCP server can return to the previous task ID before continuing with the current one, so Claude does not have to wait continuously and can handle other tasks at the same time. Once the task is completed, Claude Code will retrieve the results and pass them on to Claude. If the task is running on a remote server, it can continue to execute even if Claude Code is exited, and tracking can be resumed upon re-entry into the original session. Elicitations allows plugins to pop up forms during execution to request user confirmation for refunds or to provide missing information before continuing with their work. MCP Tasks became part of the protocol extension in July of this year, and this update adds support for that protocol in Claude Code. It is still in the public beta phase and requires CLI version 2.1.304 or later, as well as adaptation by MCP servers.
