According to CoinMeta, the Bank of Israel publicly rejected a proposal put forward by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to use cryptocurrencies to circumvent potential international financial sanctions, exposing differences between the country's central bank and its political leadership. As stated in a statement from the Bank of Israel on October 24th, cryptocurrencies cannot be used to evade sanctions. The central bank urged the government to maintain economic relations with Israel's major trading partners, while Netanyahu responded that he would consider the suggestion but would make his own decision. This incident has drawn widespread attention within Israeli politics, especially ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections on October 27th.
