a16z writes to CFTC in support of establishing a regulated computing power derivatives market
2026-10-26 22:47:26
According to CoinMeta, a16z submitted a letter of opinion to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), supporting the establishment of a regulated computing power derivatives market in the United States. It is believed that such derivatives will help AI startups and cloud service providers hedge risks and reduce financing costs. a16z stated that CFTC does not require new statutory authorities; the Commodity Exchange Act, CEA, the 38 Core Principles, and Part's 40 self-certification procedures are sufficient. It is recommended to rely on the existing framework to support computing power price benchmarks that comply with the principles of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), and to allow exchanges to launch computing power futures with regular futures and perpetual contracts that are settled in cash.
