Canadian Prime Minister: Trade negotiations between Canada and the US have accelerated, but no agreement has been reached yet

According to CoinMeta, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that recent trade negotiations between Canada and the United States have accelerated slightly, with progress mainly due to a loosening of the U.S. stance. He emphasized that Canada will not accept the terms of the agreement proposed by the U.S. in August, as there are still differences between the two sides regarding tariffs on steel, aluminum, automobiles, and medium-to-heavy trucks. The negotiations broke down on August 21st, after which the U.S. imposed a 50% tariff on approximately $20 billion worth of Canadian goods, and Canada retaliated with tariffs on equivalent U.S. products. White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow said that the two sides are very close to reaching an agreement, and Trump also indicated that a deal could be reached soon. However, another U.S. official stated that the U.S. still believes that Canada has not made sufficient concessions, and the prospects for negotiations remain uncertain.
