Investment Banks: The Philippine Central Bank May Raise Interest Rates Once More Before Pausing Hikes
2026-10-27 15:45:31
According to CoinMeta, an economist from Bank of Malaysia stated in a report that the Philippine Central Bank ( BSP) may raise its policy rate by 25 basis points to 5.75% in December, followed by a pause in further rate hikes, and maintain that rate until the end of 2027. Since the beginning of this year, the BSP has raised interest rates four times, with a cumulative increase of 125 basis points. Economists pointed out that the lagging effects of monetary tightening policies are suppressing domestic demand in the Philippines. Although the BSP does not rule out further tightening of monetary policy if inflation risks intensify, weak economic growth may limit the room for further policy adjustments in the future.
