Hyperliquid Launches HIP-3 Upgrade; Kraken Parent Company Aims for US Compliant Futures
2026-10-28 01:01:58
According to CoinMeta, Hyperliquid has announced plans to undertake a HIP-3 upgrade. The parent company of Kraken, Payward, is pursuing CFTC-regulated perpetual futures in the United States. Payward will utilize the blockchain infrastructure of Hyperliquid, with Bitnomial responsible for trading and clearing, and NinjaTrader Clearing handling customer accounts. This arrangement requires regulatory approval, and the new features are currently being tested on a test network. Payward plans to be the first CFTC regulator to deploy this framework, but U.S. customers are not yet able to access the proposed contracts. Hyperliquid indicates that the additional market controls will be implemented in future network upgrades. Payward's plans follow the announcement on September 16th to explore U.S.-compliant perpetual futures. Bitnomial will act as the HIP-3 deployer after obtaining regulatory approval, responsible for market creation and contract clearing. The proposal retains regulatory responsibilities for the independent operators of the market, and Hyperliquid's unlicensed HIP-3 market will not be affected.
