According to CoinMeta, the Bank of Canada raised its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 2.50% on Wednesday, marking the first interest rate hike in over three years. The central bank expects that inflation rates will remain significantly above the target level of 2% until 2028. Governor MacLemore stated that in order to curb inflation, it may be necessary to further raise policy rates in the future, and the bank will proceed with policy adjustments cautiously. He noted that current uncertainties remain high, mainly due to the US-Canada trade disputes and conflicts in the Middle East. In addition, the Bank of Canada has raised its economic growth forecasts, benefiting from strong consumer spending and export performance, with corporate investment expected to pick up.
