According to CoinMeta, the first batch of artificial intelligence models for extreme weather based on the Fengyun satellites were officially released at the 2026 Fengyun Satellite Users Conference, pushing the application of these satellites from "seeing the present clearly" to "predicting the future." The newly released typhoon intelligent cloud image interpretation model integrates multi-channel cloud images from the Fengyun satellites and related products to automatically analyze the location, structure, intensity, and evolution trends of typhoons, and generate interpretive text. Currently, this model has developed a comprehensive interpretation capability that covers 7 types of typhoon characteristics and combines more than 20 types of satellite real-time products. It performs interpretations every 15 minutes and can generate interpretive text in just 27 seconds. Another model for short-term severe convective weather warnings focuses on early prediction. Utilizing continuous observations from the Fengyun-4 satellite over the past two hours, combined with AI technology, it forecasts the future. A key innovation of this model is to break down the evolution of cloud images into "the overall movement of large systems" and "the local formation and dissipation of small systems," allowing for warnings to be issued up to four hours in advance.
