According to CoinMeta, a latest report from the Pew Research Center indicates that most Americans do not wish for artificial intelligence (AI) to be involved in deciding their medical care plans and insurance matters. In a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center among 3,488 American adults in June, 60% of respondents stated that they would feel uneasy if AI were used to assist doctors in making diagnoses or formulating treatment plans. Although tech giants such as anthropic, openai, and others regard AI as a way to improve healthcare services and have been promoting its widespread use, nearly half of Americans believe that AI would harm the doctor-patient relationship. As for whether AI can improve patient outcomes, respondents had mixed opinions. Erin Yam, director of scientific and social research at the Pew Research Center and the main author of the report, said: “Overall, they do not want AI to make decisions alone. They prefer some human involvement, with final review by humans.”
