According to CoinMeta, Binance announced that the hacker attack on October 29 resulted in losses of approximately $6.3 billion and pledged to cover all customer losses. The recovery process for the exchange involved multiple steps, including freezing stablecoins and tracking assets. Binance estimated that about $3 billion in assets were frozen, and preliminary investigations suggest that the attack may have originated from a compromised laptop of a development and operations engineer. Analysts linked this incident to North Korean hacker networks, while TRM Labs and Chainalysis indicated that the attackers were associated with North Korea. Binance stated that no wallet private keys were leaked, and they have revoked the permissions of the affected addresses, while also cooperating with law enforcement authorities. The exchange promised to release a technical report after the investigation is completed.
