Privacy public chain Iron Fish announces termination of network support
2026-10-31 10:59:16
According to CoinMeta, the privacy public chain Iron Fish has announced that it will soon cease all remaining support for its network. The team stated that a few days ago, they discovered abnormal activities involving the cross-chain bridges wiron and chainport. After joint investigations, it was confirmed that the root cause was an inflation vulnerability within the Iron Fish blockchain itself, rather than the cross-chain bridges. This vulnerability can be traced back to a code submission related to Merkle in early 2019, which affected the calculation of nullifier (a mechanism to prevent double-spending) for privacy tokens. This allowed attackers to spend the same token multiple times and transfer assets out through the chainport cross-chain bridge. The relevant code was included in both internal and external audits, but the vulnerability went undetected. The team mentioned that they have submitted a fix patch and included a detailed review in the corresponding PR. Subsequently, they will close and archive the code repository.
