According to CoinMeta, Chainalysis confirmed that its internal systems were subjected to an external attack. The attackers used "offensive proxy technology" to obtain information such as customer usernames ID, full names, email addresses, and organizational roles. Chainalysis warned users about potential phishing attempts and recommended enabling two-factor authentication. The investigation is still ongoing. Chainalysis has currently hired external cybersecurity experts to conduct an investigation, fix the exploited vulnerabilities, and review its broader security infrastructure.
