Gold experiences its worst October since 2008; intensified selling of tech stocks exacerbates liquidity shocks
2026-11-02 22:52:39
According to CoinMeta, gold recorded its worst performance since 2008 in October 2026, with a decline of about 6.7%. In October 2008, gold prices fell by approximately 17%, while in previous years, fluctuations were mostly between -3% and +7%. Last Friday, gold prices tumbled 3.6% in a single day, hitting a new low for the year. This round of declines was mainly caused by inflation concerns triggered by oil prices and selling off of tech stocks. With oil prices plummeting on Monday due to news of U.S.-Iran negotiations, the fundamental pressures have eased somewhat, which may be one of the reasons why gold prices saw a rebound on Monday.
