According to CoinMeta, as reported by Cointelegraph, Kraken has frozen accounts related to a suspected crypto asset theft incident involving an unnamed European institution, valued at over $133 million, and is cooperating with law enforcement authorities in the recovery of funds. Kraken stated that this incident did not originate from their platform, that their security systems were not compromised, and that customer accounts were not taken over. On-chain investigator Zachxbt discovered that the suspected amount stolen has increased by an additional $27 million from the previously disclosed $106 million. Bitquery data shows that approximately $62.98 million in stablecoins were exchanged for 27,553 ETH within about 4 hours. Kraken, Crypto.com, and OKX were all reported to be involved in the related fund transfers. Among them, Crypto.com has taken measures to prevent the transfer of related funds through their platform, while OKX indicated that they are still investigating the matter. As of the time of this report, about $78.3 million remains in wallets associated with the attackers, and another approximately $30.5 million has been transferred out. The identities of the victims and Zachxbt's speculation regarding an attack on a large Western European financial institution and attempts to cover up the incident have not yet been confirmed.
