According to CoinMeta, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the establishment of a new technical advisory group responsible for assessing the efficiency, liquidity, and resilience of the country's foreign exchange market and government bond market. The group consists of seven external members, with the deputy governor in charge of the RBI's financial markets department serving as the chairperson. Members include former board members of the Indian Political Council and deputy managing directors of the State Bank of India, among others. The RBI has been frequently intervening in the market to support the rupee exchange rate at a time when it is one of the worst-performing currencies in Asia this year. The RBI has also taken measures to curb speculative activities in the currency derivatives market and to withdraw excess liquidity in order to control inflation risks. According to the statement, the group will also identify new policy and operational issues arising in the financial markets, including the challenges faced in the implementation of the RBI's measures and any potential unexpected market frictions that may arise.
