According to CoinMeta, Waymo has announced the end of its exclusive autonomous driving taxi partnership with Uber and is shifting to independent operations. Tekedra Mawakana, Co-CEO of Waymo, stated that this move is in response to customers' desire to book autonomous driving services through a unified platform more reliably. Currently, users can only book Waymo's autonomous vehicles through the Uber platform. Waymo plans to launch its own app in January 2028 in Austin and Atlanta, USA, which will further intensify competition between the two companies. Mawakana pointed out that the change in cooperation model is due to the fact that passengers in Austin and Atlanta cannot be guaranteed to hail Waymo's autonomous vehicles. Although users can select autonomous vehicles on the Uber app, a successful match is only possible when there are available vehicles in the vicinity.
