India plans to mandate energy storage for electricity retailers
2026-11-05 15:59:15
According to CoinMeta, India plans to require power distributors to purchase a certain capacity of energy storage when purchasing renewable energy in order to reduce the waste of clean electricity. Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of India's Ministry of Power, stated that the details of the relevant policy are still under discussion, including how much energy storage capacity power distributors need to purchase, and the government plans to finalize the regulations by March next year. Solar power generation usually reaches its peak during the day, while wind power generation fluctuates with the weather, leading to times of excess electricity in the grid and times of insufficient supply. If the energy storage capacity is not sufficient, grid operators may be forced to cut back on the amount of renewable energy generated.
