According to CoinMeta, on November 4th, OpenAI released a security research report. Utilizing an unpublicized new generation of network security AI models, they conducted automated vulnerability scans on the Linux kernel and identified a total of 2,308 potential security issues. They successfully reproduced 1,724 of these vulnerabilities and generated effective exploit programs for 948 of the local privilege escalation vulnerabilities, allowing attackers to gain root system permissions. The entire test consumed approximately $1.21 million in API, with an average cost of about $1,279 per exploit program. OpenAI also generated candidate repair patches and collaborated with the maintainers of Linux to advance the repairs. Since Linux is widely used in cryptocurrency exchanges, blockchain nodes, and other infrastructure, this research has drawn attention to the system security of the crypto industry. However, there is currently no evidence indicating that these vulnerabilities have been used to attack crypto platforms.
