According to CoinMeta, the probability of the Bank of England raising interest rates again in December has risen to 50%, and the market has increased its bets on tightening policies. With all members of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee supporting the first rate hike, traders’ bets on a second consecutive rate hike have also increased. The interest rate swap market indicates that the probability of another 25 basis point hike in December is about 50%, higher than the 30% before the decision was announced. The market expects that there will be nearly three more rate hikes by the end of next year, each by 25 basis points. Market re-pricing pushed the yield on UK two-year government bonds up by 5 basis points to 4.79%, while the pound remained stable around $1.3465. Hank Calenti, an international fixed income strategist at Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, stated that unless there are clear signs that high interest rates are dragging down the economy, or unless there is a truly lasting peace in the Middle East, it is very likely that the Bank of England will raise interest rates again in December.
