EU Agency for Energy Cooperation: EU grid investment will continue to grow until 2030
2026-11-06 13:07:58
According to CoinMeta, the European Union Agency for Energy Cooperation (ACER) stated that it is expected that EU grid investment will continue to grow by 2030, but project delays and grid congestion could push up consumer costs. Among the 18 countries that submitted data for the report's forecasts, 15 expect grid investment in 2030 to be higher than in 2025. The Netherlands is projected to see investment levels nearly five times that of 2025 by then, while Estonia, Latvia, and Cyprus are expected to see a decrease in investment. Industry estimates indicate that by 2050, the cost borne by consumers for the grid could increase by 50% to 100% compared to current levels. ACER noted that the increased demand for grid investment is expected to drive up network usage fees, and coupled with rising manufacturing prices, these factors will become the main drivers of increasing grid costs. To achieve climate goals, EU natural gas demand is expected to decline by about 18% by 2030 compared to 2025. This means that the number of users sharing the fixed pipeline network costs will decrease, thereby putting upward pressure on network charges.
