According to CoinMeta, the Indian stock market is facing pressure from outflows of foreign capital, and the business community is calling for the abolition of the capital gains tax imposed on foreign investors in order to help boost the Indian stock market. The Chairman and Managing Director stated that India needs to send a signal to foreign investors that they are welcome to invest. If India wants to attract foreign investors back and to consider the Indian market as an important destination for long-term investments, abolishing the capital gains tax could be a relatively easy solution to implement. Currently, dozens of market participants are calling on the government to exempt foreign securities investors from paying the long-term capital gains tax on investments in Indian listed stocks. The Indian Finance Minister mentioned earlier this week that he would consider adjusting stock-related tax policies, but did not clarify whether the government is studying changes to the capital gains tax or transaction taxes.
