Vitalik: Unexpected donation of hundreds of millions of dollars by SHIB
2026-11-07 18:00:41
According to CoinMeta, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin reflected on his experiences investing in DOGE and making donations through SHIB in an interview on the Silicon Valley 101 podcast. He revealed that he spent $25,000 on DOGE, which later appreciated to over ten million dollars in value. The project team of SHIB transferred half of the total token supply to his public wallet. He sold some of the tokens for approximately $70 million in ETH, but due to insufficient market liquidity, he still held a large number of remaining tokens. He then donated these to Indian anti-pandemic organizations and the Future of Life Institute (FLI). He originally thought the recipients would be able to realize no more than twenty million dollars from the donation, but in reality, they received hundreds of millions of dollars, far exceeding his expectations. He stated that if he had anticipated such a result at the time, he would have made a very different decision.
