According to CoinMeta, due to a security vulnerability that affected the login to Google and Apple, someone successfully transferred approximately $5.6 million in assets from the exposed Keplr wallet, preventing theft by hackers. The company confirmed on November 7th that it had initiated emergency recovery operations, targeting the Keplr accounts created through login via Google and Apple. By November 8th, about $5.6 million in cryptocurrency had been returned to the designated recovery addresses. Web3Auth stated that the assets are now secure, and they are working with Keplr to return them to their owners. This incident highlights the security risks that can arise from a compromised wallet infrastructure, even though the underlying blockchain is still functioning normally.
