Trump-related World Liberty Trust Company receives conditional preliminary approval from OCC; USD1 stablecoins may be further brought under federal regulation, with the shareholding structure of UAE investors also drawing attention.

World Liberty Financial takes another step towards entering the US federal regulatory banking system. Its subsidiary, World Liberty Trust Company, received conditional preliminary approval from the US Federal Reserve (OCC) on August 14 to establish a national trust bank. If all subsequent requirements are met, the issuance, reserve custody, and management of USD1 stablecoins will be able to be carried out under the same federal regulatory entity.

Still not the final bank license

This approval does not equate to officially obtaining a banking license. According to reports, World Liberty Trust Company still needs to meet several conditions before it can open for business, including maintaining a capital of at least 20 million US dollars, establishing management and auditing functions, and complying with federal regulatory requirements.

If ultimately approved, the focus of this institution's business will not be on traditional retail banking services, such as accepting ordinary deposits and issuing mortgage loans. Instead, it will concentrate on custody, settlement, and asset management services. Currently, some of the related functions of USD1 are still carried out through external partners, including BitGo.

USD1 or incorporated into the same regulatory entity

This progress means that USD1 is one step closer to being incorporated into a more comprehensive federal regulatory framework. In mid-August, Reuters cited data stating that the market value of USD1 was approximately $4 billion, making it the fourth largest stablecoin in the world at that time.

As stablecoins have evolved from trading tools to being used for payments and on-chain settlements, the responsibilities of issuers regarding reserves, redemptions, and compliance have also increased. Reports mention that World Liberty has previously drawn attention due to its centralized issuance authority. HTX was taken off the market after a dispute involving the freezing of addresses associated with exchanges. USD1

The investment background of the UAE sparks scrutiny

In addition to regulatory progress, another focus of attention from the outside world is the shareholding structure. Reports indicate that investment vehicles related to the Trump family hold 38% of the shares in this holding company; another 49% of the shares are held by investors supported by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's National Security Advisor and brother of the President.

This investment related to the UAE originated from a $500 million deal completed shortly before Trump returned to the White House in January 2025. Some Democratic lawmakers have questioned whether this investment requires more stringent national security scrutiny, especially after the United States subsequently made policy decisions regarding the export of AI chips to the UAE.

At present, these doubts remain at the level of potential conflicts of interest, and there is no evidence to suggest that there is any exchange relationship between the U.S. policy decisions and this investment. The World Liberty party denies that the transaction is related to government policy, while the White House states that Trump does not participate in the daily management of their business assets.

The crypto earnings of the Trump family have drawn attention.

As the scale of USD1 expands, the related commercial interests have also been further amplified. Reuters reports that Trump's financial disclosure for 2025 shows that his family's revenue from cryptocurrency business exceeded $1.4 billion, of which nearly $800 million is related to World Liberty Financial.

Therefore, this bank licensing application is no longer just a single corporate expansion event; it involves three main issues: stablecoin regulation, the entry of foreign capital, and the business interests of the U.S. presidential family. If OCC is ultimately approved, World Liberty's connection with the U.S. regulated banking system will further deepen.

Eurozone industrial production fell 0.1% month-on-month in July: Total volume nearly stagnant, while durable goods show a clear weakening
Eurostat released its first estimate on September 16: In July 2026, quarter-on-quarter industrial production in the eurozone declined by 0.1%, and in the EU by 0.3%. Both regions saw a decrease of 0.1% in June. Compared to a year ago, industrial production in the eurozone remained unchanged, while in the EU it grew by 0.3%. The overall change is minimal, appearing almost like a flat line, but there are clear differences among industries: production of energy, capital goods, and intermediate goods increased quarter-on-quarter, whereas the production of durable consumer goods saw a significant decline. European industry has not experienced a widespread downturn, nor has there been a strong expansion.

UK inflation rose to 3.1% in August: Oil prices drive up overall inflation, while core indicators have not accelerated accordingly for now
The Office for National Statistics of the UK announced on September 16 that in August 2026, the Consumer Price Index CPI rose by 3.1% year-on-year, higher than 2.9% in July; the index including the cost of own housing CPIH rose by 3.3% year-on-year, also higher than the previous month's 3.1%. Both indices increased by 0.5% month-on-month, compared to a month-on-month increase of 0.3% in August 2025. The main factor driving annual inflation upwards was transportation, particularly car fuel costs. At the same time, the core CPI remained at 2.6% year-on-year, and the core CPIH also stayed at 2.9%; there was no acceleration in the rise in service prices either. The overall index has rebounded significantly, but the pressure is mainly concentrated on goods and energy.

Google Survey: Scientists Save Nearly 7 Hours per Week Due to AI; After Efficiency Increases, Experiments Become a New Bottleneck
On September 15th, Google updated AI and Economy ATLAS, and announced a study in collaboration with Google DeepMind and MIT FutureTech. The study analyzed 2,600 professional AI models and surveyed over 600 scientists from the United States and the United Kingdom. The results showed that nearly half of the surveyed scientists used some form of AI daily, and they reported saving nearly 7 hours per week as a result. However, the study also found that with the rapid generation of more hypotheses, there was a backlog in physical experiments, clinical validation, and result verification. This conclusion is more comprehensive than the claim that "AI speeds up scientific research": while models can streamline some mental processes, they cannot automate...

OpenAI Testing "Sponsored Agents": Ads No Longer Just Wait for Clicks, but Require Answers in Conversations
On September 16th, OpenAI announced a new round of product updates for ChatGPT Ads, among which Sponsored Agents has drawn the most attention. After seeing the ads, users can proactively enter an agent dialogue sponsored by merchants and clearly labeled with relevant information. There, they can continue to ask questions about size, features, applicable scenarios, etc., before deciding whether to visit the merchants' websites. OpenAI also introduced an ad management plugin, suggestions for copywriting and images, as well as text adaptation features. Additionally, HubSpot and Shopify were integrated into the system. It is important to note that the sponsored agent feature is currently only being tested with some advertisers in the United States and has not yet been fully rolled out to users worldwide or all merchants.
