The U.S. Department of Justice stated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has seized approximately $560,000 in cryptocurrency assets and taken control of a set of online infrastructure alleged to be used for fundraising for Hamas. Law enforcement authorities said that these funds were originally intended for Hamas' armed branch, the Qassam Brigade, and the operation involved related website domain names and servers as well.

Involves multiple types of crypto assets and accounts

According to the Ministry of Justice, investigators traced and seized relevant assets based on three search warrants dated March 25, June 25, and October 10, 2025. Supporting court documents show that the identified assets include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Wrapped Ethereum, Tether, and Tron network assets.

The document also mentions that the case involves 18 addresses controlled by Tether, as well as 3 accounts under Binance that are alleged to be related to financing foreign terrorist organizations. The Ministry of Justice's announcement does not list the currencies individually, but court documents provide additional details on these matters.

Fundraising website taken over

Court documents state that an encrypted chat group once directed supporters to donate to the AlQassam.ps website. This website received funds through rotating wallet addresses to make tracking more difficult. FBI took over the domain name and servers of that fundraising website during the related operations.

The Ministry of Justice stated that as a result, law enforcement officers were able to intercept subsequent donations and obtain information on thousands of individuals who had contacted Hamas to inquire about donation methods. This means that the case involves not only the tracking of funds on the blockchain but also extends to the infrastructure of the websites and the contact records of potential donors.

The United States continues to crack down on terrorist-related encrypted fundraising.

U.S. officials described this operation as a direct strike against terrorist financing networks. The head of the cyber department stated that Hamas has used cryptocurrencies and online platforms to raise funds globally, and measures will continue to be taken to block such illegal capital flows.

This is not the first time that law enforcement actions have been taken against Hamas-related cryptocurrency accounts. Public information indicates that the Israeli police have previously frozen Binance accounts associated with Hamas in 2023. In a separate statement in 2024, Binance stated that among the more than 1,500 wallets identified by Israel, approximately 14% had been frozen.

The US Department of Justice also mentioned that a search warrant in March 2025 led to the seizure of another batch of encrypted assets worth approximately $201,400. Law enforcement authorities stated at the time that these addresses had received over $1.5 million in total since October 2024.

Overall, the signal sent by this action is that law enforcement agencies are treating funds on the blockchain, custodial addresses, exchange accounts, and website infrastructure as part of the same investigation, in order to reduce the space for terrorist organizations to raise funds through digital networks.
