DoorDash On Wednesday, it was announced that a AI agent that allows for ordering via text message would be launched. Users can place orders through Apple Messages. This new tool enables users to send prompts such as “order my usual”, and the system will interpret these as their regular orders for Friday evenings.

DoorDash indicates that users can also request a specific dish or ask for local recommendations. Subsequently, this agent will search for local businesses and recommend a shopping cart based on the user's preferences, and will also send photos of the recommended food to the user via text message. For group orders, DoorDash states that this agent can handle different dietary preferences and quantities within a single order.

By launching a AI agent for ordering, DoorDash is attempting to gain an advantage in competition with Uber Eats and Grubhub. This release also comes at a time when personal AI agents are receiving increasing attention, as such tools can perform tasks without the need for users to browse applications or websites themselves.

DoorDash indicates that American users will be able to join a waiting list to experience this new feature first.

In addition to this new AI proxy, DoorDash also announced that it will begin testing its delivery drones with some restaurants in Northern California.
