San Francisco and Sunnyvale, California, September 30, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- NewSight Technology ( Synopsys, NASDAQ ticker: SNPS ) and OpenAI today announced a strategic partnership to combine the advanced AI capabilities of OpenAI with NewSight Technology's industry-leading EDA tools and their proxy-based AI capabilities to innovate in semiconductor design. The two parties have signed a comprehensive multi-year agreement to jointly develop GPT-Synopsys. This is a dedicated model that has been optimized to use NewSight Technology's EDA tools for semiconductor design workflows. The agreement includes revenue-sharing arrangements and marketing cooperation, and both parties will jointly provide GPT-Synopsys to customers worldwide.
Currently, the proxy AI technology connects general-purpose models with EDA tools to run chip design workflows. Both parties stated that through this collaboration, the next step forward will be to transform cutting-edge models into experts in using EDA tools: learning to operate these tools, interpreting their outputs, and utilizing them to iteratively optimize designs just like senior engineers. They claim that this integration will turn models into native expert-level users of these tools and enable engineers to explore more design options, optimizing power consumption, performance, and area (PPA), thereby allowing for the rapid delivery of more complex designs.
Sassine Ghazi, President and CEO of Synopsys, stated: "The future of semiconductor engineering requires significantly accelerating the chip design process without compromising PPA or the success rate of first-time tape-out. This agreement will expand Synopsys' advanced design capabilities as well as access to the underlying, real-engineering tools necessary to bring increasingly complex chips to market." He also said, "Together with OpenAI, we are bringing cutting-edge intelligence into chip design to help more companies develop and accelerate the creation of advanced silicon chips, while maintaining the rigor and reliability required for successful manufacturing."
OpenAI, President and Co-Founder, Greg Brockman stated: "We are utilizing the most advanced technology to improve the systems that power AI. By collaborating with Newthink Technology, we are bringing this effort into chip design, helping engineers explore more design options and obtain working chips more quickly. By assisting them in creating better chips, we can build better AI and bring it to more people."
GPT-Synopsys will revolutionize the native chip design of AI.
Both parties stated that GPT-Synopsys will combine the cutting-edge models of OpenAI with the EDA technologies and domain expertise of Synopsys to enable this specialized model to perform reasoning on chip design and verification, as well as to directly operate Synopsys' tools. Engineers will hand over the design objectives—from PPA optimization to timing convergence and verification convergence—to these intelligent agents; these agents will run the tools, interpret the results, implement modifications, and iteratively progress towards verified results for engineers to review. GPT-Synopsys will operate on infrastructure hosted by OpenAI and will be designed to be interoperable with customers' agent orchestration systems, while also being deeply integrated with Synopsys.ai and Synopsys' agent-based AI platform Synopsys Autopilot. Both parties indicated that they have already commenced early-stage technical collaboration with leading semiconductor customers.
Both parties stated that this joint service will provide packaged computing power, models, and licenses, while ensuring that customer-specific design data is protected. GPT-Synopsys will feature enterprise-level security, governance, and access control. Customer data will not be used for model training; both static and transmitted data will be encrypted and can be managed through configurable retention, auditing, and permission controls.
