【Market Overview】
U.S. Treasury yields continue to rise. The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasuries rose by about 4 basis points during the day, closing at 5.298%, and briefly broke through 5.3% at one point. The yield on 30-year Treasuries increased by nearly 5 basis points, reaching 5.642%.
The U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index for August, released on Wednesday ( PCE ), rose 3.4% year-on-year, lower than the 3.7% recorded last month. Rob Howorth, Senior Investment Strategy Director at Bank of America Asset Management Group ( U.S . Bank Asset Management Group ), stated: "I don't see inflation expectations rising significantly, so I believe traders are actually focusing on growth data... The Atlanta Fed's forecast for GDP in the third quarter is quite strong, and the data for the second quarter GDP also exceeded expectations, which may be limiting the upside potential for long-term real interest rates."
Market expectations for a Fed interest rate hike have cooled down during the day. According to CME Group's CME interest rate monitoring tool FedWatch, traders' pricing of a 25-basis-point hike next month has dropped to 35%, which is a significant decline from approximately 51% the previous day.
Adam Hertz, Global Multi-Asset Head and Portfolio Manager at骏利亨德森 Investments ( Janus Henderson Investors ), stated: "Although today's inflation data was slightly better than expected, strong employment and GDP data indicate that these figures are unlikely to disrupt the market's general expectation of another interest rate hike within the year."
Meanwhile, market attention has turned to the employment data that will be released this Friday. Economists expect that non-farm payroll in September will increase by 84,000, which is about half of the increase seen in August after seasonal adjustments.
