OpenAssets and Sui are advancing institutional tokenization standards and plan to collaborate on the development of Open Tokenized Asset Standard ( OTAS) under Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust. This is an open, platform-neutral standard aimed at defining how tokenized asset systems can seamlessly connect with the Sui ecosystem.
OpenAssets is a digital asset infrastructure provider. The company stated on Thursday that it has reached a cooperation with Sui to advance the development of OTAS within Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust ( LF Decentralized Trust ).
Institutions are increasingly issuing tokenized versions of securities, funds, commodities, and other assets. According to predictions by Standard Chartered Bank ( Standard Chartered ), the market size for tokenized assets could reach $30 trillion by 2034. OpenAssets indicates that these assets are often still locked within separate, incompatible systems, and connecting these systems has always required time-consuming and costly custom integration work for each individual blockchain.
OpenAssets indicates that OTAS aims to provide a neutral and auditable foundation for identity management, compliance, asset representation, and reporting. Institutions can build upon this foundation without having to adopt a single solution in its entirety. The focus of this collaboration is to enable interoperability among tokenized financial assets, allowing for transfer and verification across different networks without the need to develop expensive custom software for each individual blockchain. OpenAssets states that after providing OTAS on Sui, assets issued within the Sui ecosystem will follow the same open rules as assets on other networks, ensuring that their history and status are credible when transferred across networks.
OpenAssets says that OTAS is an open-standard laboratory located in Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust ( LFDT ), initiated by OpenAssets and sponsored by Sui Foundation. Sui Foundation joined LFDT in September 2026. The laboratory was officially incorporated into LFDT in the spring of 2026, and it contains open-source smart contract reference implementations for tokenized financial instruments.
As a senior member of LF Decentralized Trust, OpenAssets proposed OTAS to introduce the credible, supplier-neutral governance model that has been technically promoted for a long time by foundations such as Linux into the tokenized capital market in Linux, Kubernetes, and PyTorch.
OpenAssets, Chairman and CEO, Gabor Gurbacs stated: "Expanding OTAS to Sui allows compliance and ownership history to be carried across networks, providing institutions with a consistent and credible view of their assets. We welcome Sui's contribution to OTAS as well as to the broader efforts in building open and interoperable tokenized asset standards."
The General Manager of Decentralized Technologies, Executive Director of LF Decentralized Trust, and Daniela Barbosa stated: "Financial markets have always relied on credible standards. OTAS applies this principle to tokenized assets by creating an open framework that can be jointly shaped by a broader industry. Sui and OpenAssets are important partners in helping to shape this LFDT experiment and also provide a model for the next generation of digital capital markets."
Mysten Labs, co-founder and chief product officer, stated that issuing tokenized assets is just the first step into a broader ecosystem. Mysten Labs is a founding contributor to Sui. He said, "For the digital capital market to grow efficiently, institutions and financial platforms need a common framework for identity, ownership, compliance, and settlement across different systems. OTAS provides this shared language without forcing institutions to use a single blockchain or technology stack. Open standards like this can connect today's fragmented markets and help unleash the scale and breadth that tokenized finance has long promised."
Regarding the OTAS standard
OTAS ( Open Tokenized Asset Standard ) is a laboratory under Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust, providing open-source smart contract reference implementations for tokenized financial tools. OpenAssets is a founding member of OTAS and proposed the establishment of this laboratory, with Sui Foundation as the initial sponsor; OTAS officially launched as the LFDT laboratory in April 2026. OpenAssets joined LF Decentralized Trust in January 2026 and became a senior member, while Gabor Gurbacs also serves as a member of the governance committee for LF Decentralized Trust.
This standard is also designed for automated financial scenarios. As AI agents take on more tasks, such as collateral management, transaction execution, and settlement, they need machine-readable and consistent rules to assess asset ownership and compliance status. OTAS is intended to provide this common layer, enabling automated systems to interact with tokenized assets across platforms without the need for custom integration for each new asset type.
Open Tokenized Asset Standard is currently being continuously developed as an open-source Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust laboratory. Financial institutions, infrastructure providers, developers, and other market participants can all contribute to its ongoing development. For more information, please visit openassets.to and sui.io.

About Sui
The slogan of Sui is "Let funds flow freely like messages." It is a new generation of Layer blockchain that is oriented towards on-chain finance and agentic infrastructure. Sui was founded by the core team of a Meta stablecoin project and is driven by an object-centric model, which enables assets, permissions, and user data to be programmable and ownership-based. The fundamental primitives of Sui provide developers with everything needed to build high-performance payment and financial applications, including instant agentic payments.
