Washington, October 12 / PRNewswire / -- Artificial intelligence ( AI ) has the potential to revolutionize healthcare, but to fulfill its promise, prudent regulation is still necessary – especially for the most vulnerable patients in the United States. The American Association for Diagnostic and Laboratory Medicine ( ADLM ) invites all parties to learn about the current uses of AI in medicine, the advantages and limitations of this evolving technology, and what measures Congress needs to take to ensure that AI is used prudently and ethically.

AI is rapidly changing the way healthcare institutions manage operations, analyze data, and diagnose diseases. Since clinical laboratories generate approximately 80% of the data on which medical decisions are based, laboratory medicine is at the core of efforts to improve patient care through the use of AI.

At this briefing, senior experts in the field of laboratory medicine will discuss how AI can transform their industry as well as the entire healthcare sector, and will introduce five of the most important policy changes that are driving the efficient and effective development of AI. The speaker will also provide a case study from the field of pediatric health to illustrate the potential of this technology, as well as the challenges that still remain.

Participants will gain a better understanding of the role that Congress can play in establishing appropriate AI oversight and regulation, as well as what conditions are required to ensure that this technology benefits all patients – especially children.
