News from the IT family on October 13th: Marvell (Mianman) released the second-generation Structera X series CXL memory expansion controllers locally on the 12th of this month, including two products: 3406 and 3506.

Structera X 3406 / 3506 supports 6 on the upstream side; CXL 3.2 / PCIe Gen 6; on the downstream side, it is the first in the industry to be equipped with 6 memory channels. 3406 supports 18, while 3506 supports 12 of DDR4 RDIMM's 9TB memory, and 3506 supports 6TB memory of DDR5 RDIMM.

Another industry-first feature of these two chips is the ability to share this large memory pool among up to 4 hosts. In addition, the compression throughput of LZ4 for models Structera X 3406 / 3506 has increased by 5 times compared to the previous generation, reaching 250GB/s, which results in 2 to 3 times the effective memory capacity; they also support enterprise-level RAS and PQC security features.

IT has learned that the Marvell Structera X 3406 / 3506 CXL memory expansion controller is expected to be available in Q1 2027.
