Cerebras Systems CEO and Co-Founder Andrew Feldman stated at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 that he believes the pessimistic narrative surrounding AI risks has not been beneficial to the industry, and argued that AI leaders should emphasize more on the potential of this technology. He also discussed the impact of data center expansion, community communication, and improvements in computing power efficiency on the demand for chips.

Cerebras Systems CEO and co-founder Andrew Feldman believes that the AI 'doom theory' narrative has not brought any benefits to the industry. At TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, this AI chip company executive joked, 'Perhaps some leaders of the AI world should not be allowed to speak publicly.'

He is referring to the increasingly pessimistic sentiment surrounding AI nowadays, ranging from model failures to debates among industry insiders about AI, and to speculations about the likelihood of AI leading to the extinction of all humanity by the end of this decade. This viewpoint has become so mainstream that Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, was even parodied in a short sketch on "Saturday Night Live" recently, where a fictional character summarized this discussion by saying, "We don't acknowledge what we are doing."

However, Feldman believes that the promises and potential brought about by the development of AI are being overlooked. He thinks that leaders of AI should spend more time telling people that AI could bring about such a world: where your grandchildren “will never encounter anyone who dies from cancer,” even if they have concerns about the risks associated with AI.

Obviously, Feldman has a vested interest in the success of AI, as the company's clients include well-known enterprises such as OpenAI, Block, Figma, pharmaceutical giant GSK, and Lovable.

However, he also remains pragmatic when weighing risks against rewards.

“I don’t think there is any technology that is so powerful that it doesn’t present the challenge of what would happen when such powerful technology falls into the hands of bad people. I believe it’s impossible to create something without its negative consequences,” Feldman said in an interview with Disrupt.

"I think we must make it clear that this technology is very powerful," he added, "we must approach it with caution. We must regulate it in a reasonable manner."

The CEO of this chip company also stated that some of the negative sentiment surrounding AI may be related to the way the data center industry responds to the new projects required by AI.

"As an industry, we haven't done a very good job in collaborating with local communities over the past few years, especially in the United States. We – the entire industry – haven't made the same efforts as other industries in the fields of electricity, oil, and natural gas. They haven't collaborated with communities, nor have they communicated with them as they should have, and that is a problem," said Feldman.

He compared the “NIMBY” phenomenon occurring in the United States – “Don’t build it in my backyard!” – with that in other countries, specifically mentioning Brazil, Canada, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Mexico, and Sweden, stating that these markets are encouraging companies to build data centers.

Feldman also stated that he is not concerned about an increase in efficiency reducing the demand for his chips, nor is he worried that this will affect other companies that compete with NVIDIA.

"We can make our computing power more efficient as hardware suppliers, and model developers can also achieve the same goal by improving model efficiency. All of these must be combined to make meaningful progress," he pointed out.

AI Trend Pushes Silicon Valley "Back to the Future": Application Materials Activates $5 Billion Advanced Chip R&D Facilities
Fortune reported that Applied Materials, the world's largest manufacturer of chip manufacturing equipment, officially launched its new EPIC semiconductor research and development center in Sunnyvale, California, on Monday, with a total investment estimated at $5 billion. The facility will collaborate with companies such as Intel, TSMC, Micron, SK Hyundai Electronics, and Samsung, focusing on the research and development of microprocessors and memory chips, rather than commercial mass production. Applied Materials stated that this collaborative model is expected to reduce the cycle from "concept to commercialization" for new generations of chip architectures from the usual 10 to 12 years to as short as 6 years.

Jim Cramer Talks about the New Listing of AI Infrastructure Stocks: Wait and See for Now Accelevation
CNBC host Jim Cramer stated that although Accelevation Holdings benefits from the growing infrastructure demand of AI, he is cautious about the stock as the mid-term elections in the United States approach and data center construction faces political resistance. He also questions whether the company can continue to convert this strong demand into profits, therefore suggesting that it be added to the observation list for now.

Despite the sell-off in semiconductor stocks, Jim Cramer still doesn't give up. He says the reason is here.
On Tuesday, Jim Cramer of CNBC stated that despite the recent significant pullback in semiconductor stocks, the fundamental demand for chips has not disappeared. Citing his observations at Apple stores, long-term supply agreements with Micron, and the demand from Intel and AMD's CPU, he argued that investors should not focus solely on the semiconductor index but rather pay attention to the actual application scenarios of chips.
