Elon Musk Roadster attracts attention, but Tesla's stock price still falls
Key points:
- Despite the enthusiastic response to Elon Musk's long-awaited Roadster release from the outside world, Tesla's stock price still declined.
- The new Roadster features a number of highlights, including a propeller developed by SpaceX, an acceleration capability of less than one second, and a production target set for 2028.
- Tesla's upcoming financial report may have a greater impact on the next move of TSLA than Roadster.
Elon Musk has released the long-delayed next generation of Roadster. This electric sports car is equipped with propellers developed by SpaceX, which enable the vehicle to take off into the air.
Tesla showcased a redesigned Roadster at an event held in McGregor, Texas on Thursday, nearly nine years since the first unveiling of this next-generation vehicle model. During the demonstration, the vehicle performed jumps and aerial maneuvers driven by built-in propellers. Musk stated that production is now expected to begin in 2028.
This event quickly attracted external attention to Tesla and Elon Musk, but it also raised another question: can these impressive product demonstrations truly translate into stronger performance for Tesla's stock price?
Roadster becomes the focus
Tesla stated that the 0 to 60 mph acceleration time for the new Roadster model will be less than one second, with a top speed of over 230 miles per hour. The company showcased several versions of this car, including the Performance, Thrust, as well as the Rocket version which is available only to invited buyers.
However, the new production targets mean that customers have been waiting for approximately ten years since Tesla first announced the next generation of Roadster.
Elon Musk also acknowledged that Roadster is unlikely to have a significant impact on Tesla's financial situation. On the contrary, this car is mainly designed to showcase the company's engineering capabilities; at a time when Tesla is trying to position itself around artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, and robotics, it more serves as a billboard.
Tesla's stock price faces an even greater test
The release of Roadster coincides with a critical moment for TSLA investors. Despite the excitement brought by products such as robot taxis, Optimus, and Roadster, Tesla's stock price has still struggled to maintain a sustained upward trend.
At the same time, the market environment in which the company operates is also quite volatile. Tech stocks and stocks related to AI have been under pressure recently, with investors beginning to question high valuations and rising capital costs.
Currently, market attention is turning towards Tesla's upcoming quarterly financial report. Investors will be focusing on profit margins, revenue growth, expenses, as well as the company's latest progress in AI and autonomous driving.
This means that Roadster may be able to make headlines, but Tesla's financial performance will ultimately determine the next major trend for the stock.
