According to a report released on Friday by the artificial intelligence company Anthropic, there have been significant changes in the composition of its staff and the types of work they undertake over the past year.
Anthropic believes that the trends in its workplace may be an indicator of "how AI will reshape work organization, recruitment, and the labor demand throughout the economy," especially since the company has "completely built its work processes around AI." However, even if other organizations have not adopted AI as comprehensively or in exactly the same way as Anthropic, this report still provides an interesting window into how that company currently operates.
It is worth noting that Anthropic has been reducing the recruitment of junior employees. Since the beginning of 2025, the proportion of junior employees in the technical department has decreased from 21% to 14%, and the recruitment proportion for junior technical positions has dropped even more significantly, from 27% to 9%.
Anthropic also indicates that the proportion of the technical team among all employees has now decreased, from 61% to 56%. The company attributes this trend to 'the natural expansion of business functions as the company grows in size', as well as 'coding tools that enable non-technical employees to develop software on their own more and more.'
It is alleged that an employee described the internal environment at Anthropic as one of "constant pressure to act as quickly as possible, with Claude being used in everything." In a survey conducted in April 2026, 27% of employees stated that Claude increased their productivity, while 20% said that their work had shifted from "actually getting things done" to "managing Claude." An engineer compared this to taking care of children: "When you are taking care of children, each child comes to you with equal needs, and it's the same with various [Claude]."
In fact, this report suggests that "human attention and judgment" are becoming a "bottleneck" to productivity, as Claude generates a large amount of text that needs to be read and organized.
The report, not surprisingly, found that the adoption of AI made the company more productive, as evidenced by "each person producing more code, each sales representative completing more sales, and handling more contracts." The company acknowledges that "more code does not necessarily mean better code or a greater business impact," but it also did not observe any signs of a decline in code quality.
The report states that, according to calendar data, the average meeting time for employees has increased by 20% compared to a year ago, and the meeting time for technical contributors has increased by 16%. The company attributes this to "the importance of human trust and accountability," and employees have also repeatedly expressed that "face-to-face coordination is indispensable."
