EPIC allows customers to test and verify liquid-cooled infrastructure in a real environment, in collaboration with leading technology partners.
Redwood City, California, USA, October 21st / PRNewswire / -- Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq ticker: EQIX) Today, we are launching Equinix Enhanced Performance Innovation Centers ( EPIC), a global liquid cooling infrastructure network that can be put into production directly. These centers enable enterprises to test, build, and deploy high-density AI infrastructure with the support of Equinix experts and leading technology partners. EPIC is currently available in Frankfurt, London, Osaka, Paris, and Sydney, with more locations expected to open in 2027.
As AI moves from the trial phase to the production phase, how to dissipate heat, supply power, and make connections for the infrastructure has become a strategic priority that determines deployment speed, cost, and performance. The increasingly powerful GPU platform is driving up rack density, which in turn leads to a higher demand for liquid cooling. Few companies possess the specialized capabilities to coordinate heat dissipation, power supply, networking, and facility operations effectively, and any gap in any of these areas can slow down deployment. As a result, the readiness speed of AI infrastructure is under increasing pressure to keep up with the pace adopted by AI.
EPIC helps to address this challenge by providing enterprises with a verification platform. Within the operating data centers of Equinix, enterprises can trial the latest liquid cooling GPU and CPU platforms together with leading hardware partners, and test AI training and inference workloads under real conditions. Accompanied by experts from Equinix, enterprises can identify infrastructure and operational issues before moving to a production environment, allowing for more informed decisions when scaling up. As a result, the path from concept validation to production deployment is faster and carries fewer risks.
Equinix, Senior Vice President of Infrastructure Products and Services, Brian Stein stated: "Liquid cooling is a key component of modern enterprise infrastructure and also a mandatory requirement for deploying AI. EPIC provides a platform for enterprises to test, validate, and build confidence before large-scale deployment. We are investing our global infrastructure layout and unparalleled ecosystem capabilities into this to accelerate the path for customers from concept to production."
EPIC can help enterprise teams:
- Collaboration with Leading Technology Partners: Working with Equinix and its technology partners, as well as the ecosystem of original equipment manufacturers (OEM), to evaluate modular liquid cooling solutions under field conditions. Understand how these systems can be integrated to facilitate faster deployment.
- Gain hands-on infrastructure experience: observe the actual operation of liquid cooling technology, understand how each technology adapts to specific environments, and resolve important operational issues before deployment.
- Testing infrastructure at the actual operation sites: Each EPIC site is located within the operational data centers of Equinix, allowing customers to experience liquid cooling technology under real production conditions.
EPIC is built upon the existing innovation foundation of Equinix. In 2022, Equinix announced the establishment of its first Co - Innovation Facility, where partners could jointly test new technologies before they were deployed in Equinix data centers. In 2024, Equinix launched Solution Validation Centers for customers to verify deployment and understand how Equinix supports distributed environments. EPIC extended this experiential approach to liquid cooling and high-density AI deployments as well.
Criteo Engineering Infrastructure, Security, Internal IT and CISO Senior Vice President Matthieu Blumberg stated: "Liquid cooling is a new field for us, so we are building confidence step by step. Our AI runs on a distributed architecture, and the infrastructure must perform consistently everywhere. We saw the performance of liquid cooling in practice, understood how to operate it effectively, and then decided to scale up. Equinix has been with us at every stage, verifying it first with professional capabilities and in real environments. It is this that has turned liquid cooling from an open issue into a core part of our distributed AI infrastructure."
