President and CEO's Comment
"Stable performance supported by technical and business momentum"
Excluding the impact of the closure of government services indicated by SCIS, organic sales growth in the third quarter was 3%. The technology and security business unit in North America achieved solid growth, while reduced business activities at European airports dragged down organic sales growth in that region.
The actual sales growth of the Technology and Solutions business in the third quarter was 6%. Our global technology business remains healthy, with a continuous increase in incoming installation orders and order backlogs, with incoming installation orders in North America and Iberian America reaching record highs. The proportion of the Technology and Solutions business has risen to 35% (compared to 33% in the same period last year), reflecting the implementation of our strategic direction. This progress is thanks to our differentiated technology-driven product portfolio, and we are also continuing to expand the commercialization of capabilities that have been established within the group.
Our security services continue to be well-received in customer segments such as data centers, national defense, and pharmaceuticals. In these areas, the importance of long-term cooperative relationships and high-quality security services is increasingly evident. However, in certain markets and customer segments, the demand trend remains somewhat cautious, leading to more selective purchasing behavior and longer decision-making cycles. We have effectively addressed this dynamic in North America, but the market conditions in Europe and some countries in Iberian America are still more fragmented, which affected our revenue growth in the third quarter.
In the third quarter, the adjusted operating profit margin was 8.2% (compared to 8.3% in the same period last year), with the continued strong performance of North American operations providing support. The operating profit margins in Europe and Iberia America were lower than the strong levels seen in the third quarter of last year, mainly due to the airport security business in Europe, which had an impact on the group's adjusted operating profit margin of -0.2 percentage points. Operating profit remained flat compared to last year. For the first nine months, earnings per share increased by 6%.
Cash creation remained strong, with quarterly operating cash flow equivalent to 82% of operating profit (106% in the same period last year) and 71% in the first nine months (74% in the same period last year). We are still on track to achieve our annual cash flow target, which is 80% to 90% of operating profit before amortization of expenses. The net debt/_EBITDA ratio is 2.1 times (2.2 times in the same period last year).
Trusted intelligence-driven security partner
Since launching our strategy this summer, I have met with clients on three continents. The feedback has been very positive; both current and potential clients recognize the value of our vision in becoming "a trusted intelligence-driven security partner." They find our emphasis on quality, along with a more dynamic, intelligence-driven approach that combines high-quality security services with technology, data, analytics, and security risk management capabilities, to be attractive. Although this represents a shift from existing industry practices, this direction has received widespread support. Clients are increasingly recognizing the ability of Securitas to create greater value by utilizing artificial intelligence, automation, and actionable risk intelligence, and we have already begun to see early signs of a shift in purchasing behavior towards intelligence-driven security solutions.
As part of the final stage of the strategic assessment plan, we expect to exit the last remaining contract in the SCIS government business by the end of October.
Create long-term shareholder value
With the release of the 2030 strategy, we have updated our group's financial targets, which include achieving an average annual increase in earnings per share of 10% over a business cycle. With a clear focus on quality, innovation, and strict execution, we are accelerating our transformation and are confident in achieving sustainable profit growth and creating long-term shareholder value.
