As the AI trend reshapes the requirements for leadership, NVIDIA's sales and marketing organization is undergoing a round of "reorganization."

Veteran employees of the company are retiring one after another, making space for those who have worked there for a longer period. At the same time, CEO Jensen Huang is also bringing in talent from outside the company, and even from outside the chip industry, in order to meet new challenges.

NVIDIA's sales strategy has changed. The company was previously able to persuade customers to choose its chips, but now, in order to continue growing, it must convince more enterprises to adopt AI. What these customers are more concerned about is not the hardware specifications, but how NVIDIA's AI can be truly implemented in practice.

NVIDIA's former Vice President of Corporate Marketing, Greg Estes, stated that changes in leadership are most evident in the sales and marketing departments, while other areas of the company, such as finance, legal affairs, operations, and software and hardware engineering, remain relatively stable.

In the marketing department, NVIDIA appointed executive Alison Wagonfeld earlier this year as the company's Chief Marketing Officer, a position that was established for the first time; meanwhile, Microsoft veteran Nick Parker became the new head of sales in August. Neither of them comes from the chip industry, but both have many years of experience in helping companies adopt software and cloud services.

Meanwhile, Jensen Huang's daughter Madison has gained even more influence outside of her official market responsibilities, according to two former employees.

Former Vice President of Sales, Scott Baker, said that Jensen Huang would continue to reshape NVIDIA as the business evolves. He himself retired in July, bringing to an end a 26-year career.

“This is truly a warship making a turn in an instant, and everyone aligns themselves accordingly,” he said.

NVIDIA has not responded to the request for a comment regarding Business Insider.

NVIDIA is cultivating a younger and more robust talent pipeline.

This year's retirees include former Sales Executive Vice President Jay Puri, Corporate Marketing Vice President Laura Fay, Senior Vice President of Corporate Business Shanker Trivedi, and Sales Vice President Kevin Connors.

Fay indicates that Jensen Huang does not want to lose those senior executives who have been with the company for a long time, many of whom he personally recruited. However, as these people leave, the next generation of employees also gain opportunities.

Trivedi regarded cultivating a successor as his mission before leaving his position in April. After years of high-intensity business trips and working seven days a week, he was ready to pass on the baton.

"Time doesn't stop for anyone," said this 69-year-old executive.

Trivedi indicates that NVIDIA has a "robust pool of reserve talents." A group of younger sales and marketing professionals are very familiar with the company's culture, market, and partners. This includes Raj Mirpuri who is in charge of AI cloud infrastructure, Kimberly Powell who is responsible for the healthcare business, and Kari Briski who is in charge of AI software.

After he retired, the company allocated his responsibilities to several leaders. As NVIDIA's revenue soared during the AI craze, his original workload became too heavy for one person to handle alone.

"It's always better to flatten the organizational structure a bit in order to achieve faster progress," he said.

Another member of the Huang family is gaining influence.

An insider who joined NVIDIA's marketing team from a non-traditional background is Jensen Huang's daughter Madison Huang.

Madison previously worked in hotel marketing at the French luxury goods group LVMH. Later, in 2020, she joined NVIDIA as an intern under the title of MBA. She was quickly promoted to Senior Director of Product Marketing for Physical AI products.

A former employee stated that Madison's experience in luxury brands brought a new perspective to a marketing team that is traditionally composed of veterans from the semiconductor industry.

At NVIDIA, job titles can be quite flexible. Another former employee mentioned that Madison's responsibilities extended beyond just physical AI marketing; she had influence in multiple departments within the company and would guide teams at various levels in formulating strategies and business decisions.

Madison is also one of the few senior executives who accompany her father on trips. A former employee mentioned that this close relationship allows her to anticipate Jensen Huang's needs in advance during high-level meetings and public appearances.

This former employee said, 'She is very adept at speaking Jensen Huang's language, so he didn't need to explain himself to her.'
