The use of the International Space Station for table AI and the expansion of partnerships demonstrate the potential applications of SAP AI.

Berlin, October 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP SE ( NYSE : SAP ) announced a series of AI innovations at its annual SAP TechEd conference today, expanding its product portfolio for developers. Enhancements to Joule Studio, Joule Work solutions, and SAP Business AI Platform include the latest table-based model from SAP. New tools will be provided to build and extend AI agents, offering these agents richer data and business context for reasoning, as well as strengthened governance controls to ensure these agents operate responsibly throughout the enterprise.

SAP Business AI Platform provides a unified platform for organizations to build, contextualize, and manage AI within SAP and third-party environments. With the help of Joule Studio, business users and developers can use no-code and professional coding tools to create and extend agents, with over 70 AI models to choose from. Customers who join the early adopter program of Joule Studio can also design and run n8n workflows within Joule Studio; this feature will be made more widely available in the future. SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Knowledge Graph solutions ensure that these agents are built on trusted business data and context, helping organizations select the right models for each use case and better manage the value and usage of AI. It is particularly emphasized that the data of SAP customers remains in the customers' own possession. SAP will not share customer data with anyone for the purpose of training or improving large language models.

“SAP TechEd has always been a place where builders shape the future,” said Philipp Herzig, Chief Technology Officer of SAP SE. “This year, what we’re showcasing is how to move from having AI learn about your business to having AI run your business for you. Joule Work is where you input your intentions and get the work done, providing a unified experience across the entire SAP ecosystem and beyond. This is the transformation we are delivering on a large scale. At its core, everything runs on SAP Business AI Platform; it offers out-of-the-box business understanding, higher accuracy, enterprise-level readiness with built-in security, governance, and compliance capabilities from day one of deployment, as well as a unique context layer based on over 50 years of process and industry expertise. These capabilities are all encoded into every action taken by our platform. This is the AI that is built where real work happens.”

Joule Work and Joule Studio make autonomous enterprises a reality

The new capabilities of Joule Work will help AI to more effectively handle complex business processes through open protocols that include Agent2Agent ( A2A ) and Model Context Protocol ( MCP ). These innovations enable Joule Work to better understand context, make decisions, and execute multi-step business workflows across enterprise systems and business domains:

  • New proxy-based thinking capabilities enable planning and orchestrating the steps required for assistants and proxies to complete complex, multi-step business workflows, thereby reliably fulfilling tasks in the SAP environment.
  • The new capabilities in SAP Knowledge Graph will incorporate more data from SAP and non-SAP sources, which is unique to each customer. Users will be able to query and explore their customized data using natural language, and obtain accurate answers based on their own information.
  • Progress in interoperability allows third-party proxies to securely call Joule Agents through a governed proxy gateway. This mandatory access control enables proxies from different providers to collaborate across business workflows without compromising governance or control.
  • The new SAP Enterprise AI Gateway solution will extend governance to AI interactions, providing a centralized approach to manage the entire enterprise's AI traffic, integrating authentication, policy execution, routing, monitoring, usage tracking, and auditing.
  • The new Joule Assistant and SAP AI Agent Hub have expanded governance capabilities, while the new AI Governance Assistant helps customers meet the compliance requirements of the European Union's Artificial Intelligence Act. These designs are aimed at overcoming the key barriers to the AI scaling of enterprises: ensuring that the AI systems remain well-organized, compliant, and operate within established organizational boundaries and contexts.

SAP also announced that Joule Studio has added observability and management control features, allowing developers and administrators to view proxy behavior, model usage, and expenses. Joule Studio is a development environment prioritized by SAP over AI, and can be accessed through Joule Work for building and expanding enterprise proxies. Joule Studio will launch a limited-time promotion for some customers: deploying and running custom proxies on the Joule Studio runtime managed by SAP will continue to be free until December 2026. The tools used for building and testing proxies, as well as supporting n8n workflows and AI assisted development, will also remain free under reasonable usage restrictions.

SAP Business Data Cloud as the foundational engine of autonomous enterprises

SAP Business Data Cloud Ontology Manager in (SAP BDC) will provide a native writing experience for AI, which is used to build ontologies across SAP and third-party data. By helping AI understand how data from different teams, systems, and applications are interconnected, AI agents can make more accurate inferences and decisions throughout the enterprise. These solutions complement SAP Knowledge Graph, which provides rich business context for SAP data.

In addition, SAP is leveraging Dremio to expand its lakehouse capabilities, adding native support for Apache Iceberg and Apache Polaris, as well as a high-performance federated query engine, thereby achieving unified data access without the need to move or copy data. SAP has also expanded its collaboration with Databricks, bringing the full scope of data engineering and enterprise AI capabilities, along with the latest innovations, into SAP Business Data Cloud in the form of SAP Databricks. Core innovations such as Lakeflow, Agent Bricks, Unity Gateway, and Lakebase will help customers simplify data management and provide a solid data foundation for their AI journey. Through deeper integration with SAP Business Data Cloud, new SAP Application Data Foundation, and the integration between Joule and Genie, SAP and Databricks are helping customers build enterprise-level lakehouse as a foundation for autonomous enterprises and Joule Work.

The SAP Reltio solution recently announced on SAP Connect will bring multi-domain master data management to SAP BDC. This solution will unify and enrich customer, supplier, and product records across both SAP and non-SAP systems, creating credible and reusable data products that support applications and AI agents.

Enterprise-oriented, space-verified credible table base model

SAP announces the launch of its latest model, AI. In addition to classification and regression, this model will further support anomaly detection and outlier detection, and provide richer AI-driven analysis through embedding. These native multi-table capabilities will further reduce manual engineering work and offer faster, more in-depth insights from structured data. Moreover, the new SAP-RPT-TS model will help customers utilize SAP Integrated Business Planning solutions to perform numerical predictions on time-indexed business metrics for key forecasting use cases without the need for custom machine learning.

SAP also collaborated with HPE to announce that SAP-RPT has been deployed to HPE Spaceborne Computer-2 on the International Space Station (ISS). This is one of the most important edge computing validations to date for any enterprise's AI model. As planned, SAP-RPT will operate directly on the ISS to support abnormal triage, make predictions before issues escalate into failures, reconstruct missing sensor values based on historical data, and generate understandable task health reports for astronauts and ground teams—all without the need to transmit data back to Earth for analysis.

Herzig indicates that the same reliable SAP-RPT model that drives the global supply chain can also function in space. Our profound and proven expertise has led to the International Space Station adopting our foundational model for predicting potential critical failures in orbit. With the help of SAP-RPT and TabPFN from Prior Labs, we bring the unique capabilities of this model into enterprises and extend them to every cutting-edge field.

Out-of-the-box assistants and proxies constitute the advantages of SAP.

SAP indicates that over the past 50 years, the company has been building record systems that drive business operations. SAP will deliver a set of out-of-the-box assistants and agents that cover five major horizontal areas, all running on SAP Business AI Platform, and possessing industry-specific capabilities to provide a foundation for intelligent systems and action systems.

Eco-partners help to expand the platform's capabilities.

SAP indicates that its global partner ecosystem has brought new capabilities to the continuous operation and expansion of solutions on SAP Business AI Platform, helping customers move towards becoming autonomous enterprises. On SAP TechEd, SAP highlighted the following partner announcements:

The collaboration with Intel has established a closed loop between enterprise workflows and autonomous robots, connecting information technology with operational technology through physical AI.

In addition, the new SAP solution, which extends Docusign, Parloa, and Redwood, has enhanced customers' autonomy by allowing them to run core processes end-to-end across systems without the need for intermediation.

In addition to technology, SAP also supports its strong developer community through new empowerment and interaction initiatives. Before the convening of SAP TechEd, tens of thousands of developers had already participated in Devtoberfest; at the same time, SAP also provides new reference architectures, tutorials, as well as practical opportunities for participants to try out both on-site and at home.
