Coca-Cola raised its profit forecast for 2026 on October 27th. Previously, the company reported stronger-than-expected third-quarter results, with global beverage sales growing by 5%. Despite ongoing inflation, consumers still purchased more soft drinks.
This beverage giant reported revenue of $13.38 billion for the quarter, a year-on-year increase of 7.4%, exceeding Wall Street's forecast of $12.92 billion. The adjusted earnings per share were $0.91, also higher than analysts' expectations of $0.88.
According to Coca-Cola's financial report, the company now expects its earnings per share to increase by at least 11% this year, which is higher than the previous forecast range of 9% to 10%.
Coca-Cola's zero-sugar product sales increased by 16%, with consumers purchasing more beverages.
One of the most important developments this quarter is that physical sales have once again strengthened.
Coca-Cola's global unit case sales increased by 5%, with most of the growth coming from India, China, Mexico, and Brazil. Price and product mix contributed only 1% to the growth, indicating that the company's reliance on price hikes to improve performance has decreased.
Coca-Cola's zero-sugar products stood out particularly well, with unit box sales increasing by 16% in the company's various regional business segments.
Traditional Coca-Cola products saw a 5% increase, Diet Coke grew by 6%, and the sales of bottled water increased by 8%.
Stronger performance was seen during the management transition period. Henrik Braun (Henrique Braun) took on the role of CEO after the handover at the company CEO earlier this year.
However, the demand is still uneven.
North American beverage sales remained flat, while Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region saw growth of 6% respectively. These figures indicate that Coca-Cola's international markets are increasingly becoming an important force in supporting overall sales.
As costs rise, Coca-Cola raises its profit forecast
Coca-Cola has raised its forecast for year-over-year, exchange-rate-neutral earnings per share growth to at least 9%, after excluding the impact of mergers and acquisitions and divestitures, from the previous estimate of 7% to 8%.
The company has also raised its free cash flow forecast to at least $13 billion, from approximately $12.4 billion previously.
Operating profit increased by 12%, and the reported operating margin expanded from 32.0% in the same period last year to 33.4%.
However, the rising costs of aluminum, plastic packaging, and other bulk commodities remain a concern.
Coca-Cola responds to price-sensitive consumers with smaller and cheaper packaging, while also expanding its premium product line, which includes fairlife dairy drinks.
This strategy stands in contrast to some of the pressures faced by competitor PepsiCo, which recently lost an important catering partnership.
Yum Brands plans to start replacing Pepsi-Cola beverages with Coca-Cola products in thousands of its stores across the United States starting in 2027, which also presents another potential growth opportunity for Coca-Cola.
What does the financial report mean for Coca-Cola's stock price?
According to Reuters, Coca-Cola's stock price has risen by approximately 33% since 2026, outperforming many consumer companies during a difficult period when household spending is under pressure.
However, the latest performance has also raised a question: with rising costs and stable demand in North America, can this growth continue?
PepsiCo, on the other hand, faces other operational challenges, including the recent recall of Gatorade and weak demand in some of its North American businesses.
Investors will now assess whether Coca-Cola can maintain sales growth in international markets while controlling costs.
Strong financial reports don't always lead to higher stock prices, especially when investors have already factored in optimistic expectations.
