Robinhood This trading application, which has 28.6 million funded customers, is introducing the digital dollar launched by Ripple. According to a announcement from Ripple, its RLUSD token was launched on Robinhood's own blockchain and on Bitstamp exchange on Tuesday, and it is expected to be integrated into the main Robinhood application later this year.
RLUSD is a stablecoin, which is a type of cryptocurrency designed to always have a value of 1 US dollar. It allows funds to flow on the blockchain without having to wait for banks to open. This token was launched in December 2024, and Ripple indicates that its market value—i.e., the total value of all tokens in circulation—is now over 2.5 billion US dollars.
Robinhood will also operate its global treasury business on Ripple Treasury. This is a software used to manage company cash, with functions including payments, cash flow forecasting, and risk management. It also includes internal net settlement within the company, which means offsetting the amounts owed between different departments, thereby reducing the number of actual payments that need to be made.
Ripple Prime is a principal broker that provides financing and trading settlement for hedge funds and other large institutions. It now offers lending and guaranteed financial services covering approximately 20 types of digital assets to Bitstamp. In April 2025, Ripple announced the acquisition of the company for $1.25 billion; at that time, the company was still known as Hidden Road.

Customers of Ripple Prime can also conduct spot trading on Bitstamp, which means buying at the current market price; later this year, Prime will also support perpetual futures trading on this platform, where contracts bet on the future price of a certain token without an expiration date. Robinhood completed the acquisition of Bitstamp in June 2025 for a transaction amount of approximately 200 million US dollars. Bitstamp is one of the oldest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, with the majority of its trading volume coming from institutional customers.
Robinhood will use RLUSD for institutional settlements on XRP Ledger, which means that large-value transactions will be completed and paid for within the institutional business of Bitstamp. XRP Ledger is the blockchain behind XRP.
Robinhood Crypto and International, Senior Vice Presidents and General Managers, stated: "Practicality drives the advancement of stablecoins. After collaborating with Ripple, Bitstamp and Robinhood will be able to use RLUSD for institutional settlements, manage our operations with Ripple Treasury, and obtain financing through Ripple Prime. This is what an interconnected global financial system should look like."
Robinhood once reduced its range of cryptocurrency listings during the crackdown by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Ripple and other crypto companies, but added XRP for U.S. customers in November 2024. Today, the software from Ripple will help manage Robinhood's own finance department.
Robinhood cut about 10% of its staff in June, following a 34% decline in its first-quarter crypto trading revenue to $134 million. The company will release its third-quarter financial results after the market closes on Tuesday, which will be the first full-quarter report since the launch of Robinhood Chain on July 1st.
