Latham and Watkins LLP, together with Harvey, today announced a collaboration to develop a fund establishment solution empowered by AI. Through this design collaboration, Latham will combine its market-leading investment fund business team lawyers with Harvey's product and engineering teams to drive the technological advancement of fund document processing processes.

This collaboration focuses on the key aspects of the fund establishment process, including LPA, side, letters, subscription documents, and memorandums of understanding, with the aim of building relevant AI capabilities. Latham states that by bringing their experience in fund establishment, market knowledge, and practitioner perspectives directly into the development process, this collaboration hopes to simplify the procedures and create more opportunities for lawyers to concentrate their efforts on the most strategic and business-critical issues that are most important to their clients and their investors.

"Fund establishment requires lawyers to handle a large number of details while always focusing on the business priorities of the sponsors and investors," said Matthew Chase, the global head of investment fund operations at Latham. "We are delighted to collaborate with Harvey to combine their professional engineering capabilities with the perspectives of a wide range of practitioners on Latham's top global platform, and to transform our market knowledge and insights into tools that support our clients."

"The best legal technology is built on a deep understanding of how senior lawyers work and what they need," said Winston Weinberg, CEO and co-founder of Harvey. "This allows our product and engineering teams to directly understand the needs of lawyers handling some of the most complex fund establishment transactions, helping us to create capabilities that reflect the complexity and realities of their work."

The M&A and private equity partner of Latham, and a member of the strategic committee of AI, Amber Banks stated: "In the field of private equity and broader transaction environments, we see opportunities to apply AI in a targeted manner, complementing the experience and judgment of our lawyers and enhancing the way we serve our clients. This collaboration puts this approach into practice, bringing the perspective of our lawyers directly into the development of capabilities tailored for complex, real-world legal work."

Latham Chief Information Officer Rene Mendoza stated: "Our technology strategy is built on the work done by our lawyers and the results that our clients expect. We are delighted to continue collaborating with Harvey to develop advanced AI capabilities, enabling us to leverage the collective expertise of our lawyers in new ways. Through our partnership with Harvey, we are equipping our internal teams with powerful AI tools and introducing innovative AI solutions into our business to support our commitment to providing exceptional client service."

However, Cramer acknowledged that this does not eliminate the pressures faced by data center trading. He pointed out that the high debt of smaller AI infrastructure companies, their Broadcom-Anthropic financing structures, as well as fluctuations in the bond market and interest rates, remain the three major risks.
