New York, October 28th / PRNewswire / -- Bold Security Today, the company announced that it has been selected for the 2027 Fortune Cyber 60 list. This list annually recognizes the most important venture-capital-backed cybersecurity startups that have not yet undergone IPO, acquisitions, or other major exits. Bold is making its debut on the list and is ranked in the early-stage category.
Over the past decade, data leakage prevention (DLP) has been widely criticized for containing a lot of "noise" (irrelevant or misleading information) that gives people a false sense of security. Traditional (DLP) relies on pattern matching, which allows it to identify certain types of data (PII and PCI), but it misses important items such as source code, financial models, and board of directors documents. The patterns identified by this method also trigger during normal operations, overwhelming teams with numerous alerts, leading to the eventual disabling of the interception function. As a result, these protection tools have become nothing more than detection tools.
Today, AI is bringing work back to the device side, entering into locally running desktop assistants and AI proxies, which are not within the traditional monitoring paths of DLP. Bold has rebuilt the terminal DLP around AI that runs on devices. The small language models deployed on each device classify data based on meaning rather than patterns, read the context surrounding each operation, and block or provide prompts in real-time when events occur. This entire process does not require any round-trips to the cloud, does not involve writing regular expression rules, and there will be no gaps in coverage when the devices go offline.
Bold Security, co-founder and CEO, Nati Hazut stated: "For many years, the industry has viewed terminals as outdated boundaries and DLP as a necessary evil. However, AI has shattered these assumptions. Humans and AI agents transfer sensitive data through devices faster than security teams can track, while DLP is both overburdened and underperforming. With Bold, we bet that terminals are both a new source of risk and the right place to solve this problem. Being selected for Fortune's Cyber 60 validates this issue as well as our approach."
Bold was established in 2024 and was founded by the Polyrize team. Polyrize is a cloud data security company that was later acquired by Varonis. Bold has raised 40 million US dollars from Bessemer Venture Partners, Picture Capital, and Red Dot Capital Partners. Companies such as Tekion, HiBob, Cresta, and Shutterfly are using Bold to prevent data breaches, identify high-risk internal personnel, and protect the use of AI at the terminal level.
Bessemer Venture Partners Partner Amit Karp stated: "Every security team is aware that DLP is a problem, but few companies are willing to rethink the way they work. Bold has created a truly different product that utilizes AI on endpoints to understand sensitive data and prevent leaks without interfering with employees' work. That's why we support this team."
The Fortune Cyber 60™ list is jointly launched by Lightspeed Venture Partners and AWS to honor 60 of the most important cybersecurity startups supported by venture capital that have not yet undergone IPO, acquisitions, or other major exits. Lightspeed evaluates hundreds of cybersecurity companies supported by venture capital based on annual recurring revenue, year-over-year growth, and verified operational data, and then divides the list into three tiers, with 20 companies in each tier. The complete list can be viewed here.
About Bold Security
Bold provides real-time data security for modern terminals. Bold runs directly on the device, classifies data based on its meaning and context, identifies risks in human interactions with data, and prevents data leaks at the moment the data leaves the device, without requiring the data to leave the device at all. Bold is ready to use out of the box, requires no configuration or tuning, and can cover any type of data, not just patterns that regular expressions can capture.
